As of late we have been drinking a lot of wine. Looking back over the past 10 months, I think we have drunk more wine than we drank in all of 2005 and 2006 combined. Chilean wine, Argentine wine, it is hard to say which is better mainly because we typically cannot buy Chilean wine in Argentina nor Argentine wine in Chile. Because of this we have been good environmentalists; we have been thinking globally and drinking locally.
I cannot speak for Sarah, but my palate has improved and has become more discerning with its sensitivity to wine since living in Chile and Argentina. I would like to say that this has come about due to the shear volume of liquid that has made the journey from bottle to glass and from glass to mouth. But that would be disingenuous. The real reason for this maturing of the wine taste buds is because back in April, Tara, a friend of mine from college, came for a holiday and we set our sights on the vineyards of Mendoza and later San Juan. In so doing we discovered a little gem of a wine bar in Mendoza called "The Vines of Mendoza" where we spent many hours tasting and learning about boutique wines and the grapes common to Argentine wines.
The following 6 or 7 posts are a journey back in time to that adventure with Tara. It was a trip that was so fun and so interesting that I think it is safe to say we all would do it over again in a heartbeat. Right Tara?
Salud!
